hamper1aA hamper donated by Councillor Bill Porteous has raised £105 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Councillor Porteous bought the hamper with money he raised by growing an impressive set of whiskers during Movember and donated it to Auchtermuchty woman Sandra Donaldson whose partner Ken Scott is deaf.

The raffle was drawn by Councillor Andy Heer who was involved when Ken got Spike, his first hearing dog.

“Spike is now retired,” said Councillor Heer, “but he’s still a fit and active dog who gets on well with Ken’s current hearing dog Ollie.”

“I often see Ken around the town with the boys and they make a tremendous difference to his life.”

“Hearing dogs alert deaf people to sounds they would otherwise miss – simple sounds that most of us take for granted like the doorbell, alarm clock and even danger signals like the fire alarm. Being aware of these – thanks to a hearing dog – makes a real difference to deaf people’s lives.”

“On behalf of Ken and Sandra and Hearing Dogs I would like to thank Councillor Porteous for his generous donation to this worthwhile cause.”
